Habitat for Humanity seeks to build lives, families and communities, as well as houses, by working with all who would seek to pick up a hammer and make a dream a reality. Habitat was founded on the goal of bridging theological differences by putting love into action. Everyone can use the hammer as an instrument to manifest God’s love.
Habitat founder Millard Fuller called this concept The Theology of the Hammer, explaining, “We may disagree on all sorts of others things, but we can all agree on the idea of building homes with Gods people in need.” By partnering with Habitat for Humanity Silicon Valley, congregations of Santa Clara County provide resources for one of the most basic of human needs: decent, safe, and affordable housing.

All Faiths House
Habitat Silicon Valley’s All Faiths House is a Santa Clara County wide effort to bring the multitude of diverse faith communities of Silicon Valley together to partner in the sponsorship and collective build of a Habitat home.
The unique community building opportunity will be Habitat Silicon Valley’s first interfaith build, and will be organized to foster understanding and provide a positive way for people of different religious backgrounds to demonstrate coexistence through a labor of love.
How
All participating faith groups would together be tasked with raising the cost of building materials to sponsor one house. Additionally, the participating communities would together provide up to half of the volunteer labor for the house throughout the build process.
Where
The All Faiths House will be taking place on one of the four homes that Habitat is going to building on an upcoming development in Cupertino, CA.
When
The Cupertino development is scheduled to break ground this winter.
Outcomes
- Provide local mission opportunities that call people to reach out to the community and put their faith into action.
- Experience revitalization as members come together for a hands-on mission project that offers a time for team building and fellowship.
- Build community among various faith groups while building a home for a deserving family.
Faith groups from all areas of Santa Clara County are currently banding together in Community Faith Alliances to participate in the All Faiths House. Please contact Don Varney, Faith Relations Coordinator, to join the effort!
